Bloom’s Taxonomy Workshop Strengthens Outcome-Based Education at NSOM

A workshop on Bloom’s Taxonomy was successfully conducted on 23 February 2026 by Dr. Shailaja Shastri for the faculty members of  NSoM. The session was organized from 1:30 PM to 4:00 PM in the New Board Room.

The primary objective of the workshop was to enhance faculty members’ understanding of Bloom’s Taxonomy and its effective application in Outcome-Based Education (OBE). The resource person provided a comprehensive overview of the six levels of cognitive learning—remembering, understanding, applying, analysing, evaluating, and creating—and emphasized their significance in formulating meaningful learning outcomes and designing robust assessment strategies.

During the session, faculty members actively engaged in hands-on activities that involved drafting clear, measurable and outcome-oriented learning objectives aligned with the different levels of Bloom’s Taxonomy. 

They were also guided in framing appropriate examination questions and internal assessment components that effectively assess both lower-order and higher-order thinking skills. Through interactive discussions and practical exercises, participants gained clarity on differentiating between knowledge-based questions and those that promote critical thinking, problem-solving and creativity.

The workshop was highly interactive and application-oriented, encouraging faculty members to share experiences, raise queries and reflect on their current teaching and assessment practices. 

The structured approach adopted by the resource person enabled participants to link theoretical concepts with practical classroom implementation. Overall, the workshop proved to be highly informative and beneficial. It significantly contributed to strengthening faculty competencies in curriculum design, instructional planning and assessment formulation. 

The session had a positive impact on teaching, learning and evaluation practices within the Institute, thereby supporting continuous academic improvement and effective implementation of outcome-based education.
